Fire v 1
was lucky enough to be friends with Mary Magrini, a truly gifted painter, whom I commissioned to paint a hand holding a lit match. After Mary had illuminated the background and the hand holding the match, I was inspired to have the match illuminate all of remaining elements on the poster (which was just my typography).
I also made only the word “FIRE” red, and purposely kept the match and all other elements in the poster gray to emphasize the effect, through illustration, of what fire does for us and to the world around us, and not to focus on and define what fire is.
This poster and a related 6-foot banner were created for the Athens Cultural Center to promote their show “FIRE: An exploration of fire’s role in history and in our lives”
